ENGINEERING STANDARDS SPECIALIST


African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania is looking to appoint an Engineering Standards Specialist. This role reports to the
Maintenance Technical Support Section Leader and the objective of this position is to set up standards and procedures and implementation thereof for the Bulyanhulu Maintenance & Engineering department for both mechanical and electrical.KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


• Identify and catalogue tasks and units or machineries, structures and systems that require specific working procedures or standards for the Engineering and Maintenance Department
• Establish the standards and procedures applicable to each section in Engineering and Maintenance and ensure implementation thereof
• Develop standards and procedures in line with international bodies such as ISO, ASTM-D, API, SAE, IEE etc. requirements and in consultation with applicable sections to guide material and equipment purchases and activities of the Engineering and Maintenance Department
• Identify and catalogue all Tanzanian standards and procedures applicable to Engineering and Maintenance and ensure full implementation and compliance by applicable sections in Engineering and Maintenance
• Use both national and international or industry best practices to define specifications and standards required for specific Engineering and Maintenance activities when required
• Coordinate all standards and procedures for all Engineering and Maintenance sections into a centralized system for easy referencing
• Take custody of all standards and procedures applicable to Engineering and Maintenance and ensure they are live, properly catalogued and referenced and securely documented
• Assist to maintain the technical library and drawing register in consultation with the Planning Superintendent at the correct standards
• Ensure all standards and procedures are appraised and revised annually in consultation with applicable section and implemented in full
• Conduct periodic audits to ensure that machines and activities under Engineering and Maintenance conform to the standards and procedures
• Guide the mine on implementation of new industrial or applicable international standards to ensure full implementation and that deadlines are met
• Identify, catalogue and manage all audit deviations applicable to Engineering and Maintenance and ensure gaps are closed to standard and closure deadlines are met
• Coordinate all external audits and ensure that auditors and audit requirements and routines are managed
• Ensure equipment and activities at Engineering and Maintenance are risk assessed and all risks out of tolerances are mitigated with appropriate standards and procedures
• Develop a training framework in consultation with sections and training centers to guide the use of standards and procedures by all staff in the Engineering and Maintenance Department
• Continuously guide all sections in Engineering and Maintenance on standards and procedure requirements applicable to respective sections and ensure full compliance
• Assist in incident or accident investigation and review applicable standards and procedures to mitigate the risks or root causes to avoid future occurrence
• Comply with all ABG safety regulations, procedures and rules
• Abide by all ABG business ethics and ensure full compliance daily
• Generate monthly reports per section in Engineering and Maintenance indicating:
o Standards or procedures coverage level
o Standards or procedures outdated
o Number of breaches with reasons
o Exposure or risk level
o Implementation status per standard
o New developments etc.


PROFESSIONAL SKILLS


Education Requirements:


• Tertiary education in mechanical or electrical engineering discipline
• Relevant courses / certificates in standards development and implementation


Knowledge & Experience Requirements:


• Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role
• Proven knowledge of mineral processing and mining equipment
• Extensive knowledge in risk assessment and auditing
• Extensive knowledge in underground engineering and maintenance
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Project, Excel & Access
• Experience with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems – Ellipse, Pronto, MIMS
• Train the Trainer
• Ability to manage, motivate and lead a team
• Ability to train and pass on knowledge
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent analytical skills
• Excellent planning, organisation skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and the self-discipline to achieve tasks on time
• Ability to work in multicultural environment
